Show and Tell with Hideki Anno

I was watching these videos of Neon Genesis Evangelion director Hideki Anno who comes to an Elementary school and teaches the children how to do an animation. It is in four episodes, which I really enjoyed. Anno takes the children to his parents and the school kids interview them about how Anno got into manga and then they interview two of Anno's old friends from college.

It was entertaining to watch, contains some nice scenery which was used in Evangelion and Anno says some words of wisdom which I like. These were my favourite quotes from him, this one is very relevant;

In school tests, there is only one answer for each question and you might get zero or half points if you get the wrong answer, but in the real world, things are not black and white, so you should think about things on your own and express them in words or pictures. This is how you communicate with people, with other people.

And this made me laugh,

There are no boundaries or age limits with geeks.

Anno seems like a down to earth person. In work last year one of our survey questions was, "If there was anyone in the world you could have a cup of tea with who would it be?" Hideki Anno would be one of them.

  1. This was an interesting video. We actually got our son Anime Studio 8 software, but he has not shown interest yet in installing it :(

  2. Awh that is cute. Typical, the parents are big into anime but the kid isn't or is he. :p Kids always have so much on their minds, he might eventually.
