Jeremy Spoken in Class Today

This is a very powerful song which brings back memories when I first heard it. Great song and great video.

I only found now that the song is actually a true story. There really was a boy called Jeremy who committed suicide in front of his English class in 1991. It is crazy when I think of stories of students or teenagers who committed suicide or go an a killing spree because they were bullied in school. I wonder what goes in their heads to make them do it. There is always other ways out.

I really agree with this quote about the song,

It came from a small paragraph in a paper which means you kill yourself and you make a big old sacrifice and try to get your revenge. That all you're gonna end up with is a paragraph in a newspaper. Sixty-three degrees and cloudy in a suburban neighborhood. That's the beginning of the video and that's the same thing is that in the end, it does nothing … nothing changes. The world goes on and you're gone. The best revenge is to live on and prove yourself. Be stronger than those people. And then you can come back.

Eddie Vedder, "Rockline Interview", Seattle, Washington. October 18, 1993.
